When you use your brushes, bits of makeup, oil, dirt, and even bacteria can get trapped in the bristles. So while it might seem basic, skipping this step can lead to clogged pores and pesky breakouts. 

Makeup brushes, they are excentral but also expensive for makeup artist and makeup ethusiatists. But if you care for them correctly, they can last for many many years. So, how to clean your makeup brushes without damaging them?

The most most important thing you need to keep in mind while you cleansing you makeup brushes is that always keep your brushes upside down. That means the brush head always facing down.Once a week, it’s time for a deep cleaning. (Note that your brushes will need a few hours to dry after a deep cleaning, so I’d recommend washing them after you’ve applied your makeup that day.)

First of all, don’t over wash your natural hair brushes. If you just using them on yourself, you can just wipe off powders and eyeshadows in towel between use if their colors are not too strong. But once you decide your dirty brushe need a good wash, especially foundation brushes. Opera? a brush soup, you can also use cir soup as well known as a wash soup. Professional brush cleansing liquids are also great. But when you choose the liquid, please make sure that they are mild, alcohol-free and with weak acid PH value. If you don’t reuse the brush immediately, avoid using alcohol base brush cleanser as they will be very harsh and dry on the bristles.

1, Thoroughly wet your brush with cold water. This will loosen some of the makeup of the bristles.

2, Soup up your brush with the cleansing soup or cir soup. Wait for the soup foams and with generous amount on the brush. Then swirl the bristles back and forth over the palm of your hand. But avoid press it too hard. Mid-wash, keep the base of the brush head away from soap and water. The bristles are glued to the base, and water and detergent can cause the glue to disintegrate and the bristles to come loose and shed. Do not dry vertically — this will cause water to leak into the ferrule [the piece that joins the bristles to the wand], which will also loosen the glue and lead to bristle loss.You can also use a brush cleansing glove for it. But for high quality brushes, your hands are more gentle then a glove.

3, Once your brush is utterly washed, just rinse out all the soup. Try to aviod getting water into the ferrule of the brush handle as it will cause mould to grow inside of the brush or will lose the glue.

4, Slightly but firmly squeeze all the extra water out as you can, and you can also flip the brush to get the water out. But if you get some water along the handle, please remember use a towel to dry off before it leak into the ferrule.

5, The most important step, and easily the one that gets overlooked the most is to reshape the bristles. Reshape the bristles by slightly running your fingers from the bottom of the hair over to the tip of the hair.

6, For drying your brushes, you can laid them flat to dry on a clean towel. This is the easiest method. Never send your brushes up right in a glass to dry because the water will actually run backward into the handle and cause mould to grow overtime. Let the brush dry with its bristles hanging off the edge of a counter, thereby allowing it to dry in the correct shape.

7, Some brushes also need a bit of shapping as they dry. They would fluffy out and difficult to use when dray without shapiing. For that you can absolutely use the protector/brush guards. You can slide the protector backforward of the handle and up to the bristles. Then the bristles would be in perfect shapes when they are dry.With the protectors on, you can also set them upside down in a glass with the bristles facing downwards so any excess water will drip out. Although lie them flat is totally okey.

8, Depending on the brush, sometimes after you wash them too many times, your brushes may become rough or dull and just plain uncomfortable to use on your skin. If your brushes get to that point, using a dab of conditioner (yes, the same one you’d use for your hair) to condition the bristles isn’t a bad idea.
