The brush is a unique traditional calligraphy and painting tool in our great China country, which over 5000 years.
According to folklore, it was first created by Meng Tian, a general who supervised the construction of the Great Wall in the Qin Dynasty. However, the writing instruments unearthed from the Zuojiagongshan ancient tomb in Changsha, Hunan Province in 1954 prove that as early as the Warring States period, there were residents in the Chuanshanping area making brushes, with a glorious history of nearly 3,000 years. According to the stone inscription "Qingquan" of the city-level cultural relics and historic sites in the territory, the word "Qingquan" was written by Zhu Xi, a Confucian scholar in the Song Dynasty, who saw the superb brush of Chuanshan and wrote the word "Qingquan" on the stone wall with his hand. Pay tribute. In the early Qing Dynasty, Yu Hanxi, Dongchong, Chuanshanping Town, opened a Yuyunhe brush shop in Beijing, and Chuanshan brushes were well-known in Kyoto. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Gui Yusheng and Yishun pen shops opened by Liu Jintai of Shi Niuchong in Chuanshan and Ren Yishun of Gaojiafang Town in Changsha enjoyed a high reputation in the provincial government. In the 1960s, Chuanshan established a brush factory. In 1975, the branch factories of the brigades were withdrawn and the Chuanshan brush general factory was established. In the 1990s, the government acquired the brush factory. Until 2000, the inheritor Lu Cunxu contracted the Chuanshan brush factory, which has been passed down to this day.

Protection, Inheritance and Development
With the rapid development of science and technology, new writing tools such as fountain pens, ballpoint pens, and computers have been widely used, resulting in the decline of traditional writing tools and the rapid shrinking of the writing brush market. The prospects are slim. Due to the downturn in the industry and meager income, some young brush-making artists left the factory and abandoned their brushes one after another. As a result, Chuanshan brush-making skills, a traditional national craft treasure, are facing the danger of having few successors and being on the verge of being lost.
It is gratifying that the endangered state of Chuanshan brush making skills has attracted great attention from party committees and governments at all levels. Chuanshan Writing Brush Factory has successively joined the International Association of Four Treasures of Study, China International Chamber of Commerce and China Council for the Promotion of Trade, and has been designated as a designated unit for the production of tourism commodities by Yueyang Tourism Bureau. As a result, its products have won more than 10 honorary titles such as the "Gold Award of the World Expo", the national "Ministry Excellent Product", and the national "Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries". In 2013, Chuanshan brush-making skills were announced as the third batch of municipal intangible cultural heritage protection list; in January 2015, Chuanshan brush-making skills were rated as the first batch of Hunan's "most beautiful and rare old crafts".
